Introduction
The Watergate Scandal has come to be known as one of the biggest political scandals in United States history. It began on June 17, 1972 when five men were arrested around 2:30 a.m. for breaking into the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate office building. The scandal eventually led to President Richard Nixon’s resignation on August 9, 1974 and over 30 of President Nixon’s aides pleaded or were found guilty of breaking the law (Barker and Pincus, 1992).
